MARC Hamfest July 17th, 2011

This was the first hamfest I have visited. Think of a hamfest to be just like a computer show, sometimes indoor, sometimes outdoor. Sponsored by the Mid Atlantic Amateur Radio Club. This show wasn’t particularly large, but it gave me some exposure to hamfests.
I carpooled up (with myself at the helm) with W3VD and N3YH from our local club to check it out. This hamfest was in Kimberton, PA (another scenic Pennsylvania town). Overall it was a good day. I didn’t buy anything, but I did look at everything. I even saw some equipment that was familiar, and got to actually handle some of the equipment that I have only seen in photos, which gives me a better idea of what it is about.
If you get a chance check out a hamfest, even if you aren’t a radio amateur. If you are into electronics, there was plenty there for you. If you wanted to become a radio amateur, you could do that while you were there also. I had a good time, lunch was good, and overall it was a good one day trip.
