Places to see in Connecticut

Talcott Mountain State Park

Talcott Mountain State Park is a great place to go hiking and see the Heublein Tower which sits on the ridge above. Very scenic, and the hiking was as easy or hard as you wanted it to be.

W1AW

On my trip to Connecticut I did not get to see the W1AW Radio Station and Museum. This is the ARRL’s headquarters. Being a relatively new licensed amateur radio operator (December of 2010) this stop was something I really wanted to see, however, much to my dismay, they are not open on the weekends! For shame ARRL! At least get a volunteer to run it on the weekends.

The Submarine Force Library and Museum

The USS Nautilus was another stop on my journey through Connecticut. It was worth the stop just to see inside the sub. It was the first nuclear powered submarine used by the military. It was a bit cramped inside, especially if you are a large person. Most of the ship was available for you to see with the sensitive area’s blocked off, or walled with glass. Definitely worth the trip!

Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough

After you are done wanking around in Noank, look into getting some food on the water. I had never had lobster up until this juncture. The only thing that surprised me was that they did not have alcoholic beverages, other than that, the food was really good.

Overall, I enjoyed Connecticut. It was not too far away from my place of residence and I found the scenery and area interesting. As I may or may not have stated previous , most of the east coast looks the same, on a whole.
